WELCOME in LE MOULIN DE PALBAS!
'Le Moulin de Palbas' is a 16th century estate and its atmosphere still reflects the serenity of the monks, the former occupants. Since the farming as such was abandoned a long time ago, its 33 hectares consist of woods, prairies, marshland and a lake. The mill that gave the estate its name is no longer there, but has left us its foundations..
Here we have created four rooms with character.
Our rooms
'TOMBOUCTOU'
The African room, our only ground floor room, equipped for the disabled. The furniture is African woodwork and comes from various African countries, just as the decoration of masks, statuettes and batiks. The room has one king size bed and one three-quarter bed.
'OUARZAZATE'
our Moroccan room, a very big family-room in L on two levels, which sleeps 6. A colourful room decorated with pots, cushions, rugs and fabrics from various North-African countries. The room has two king-size beds and two single beds.
'VALENCAY'
Our French room is done all in wood and soft pink. In fact the room consists of two bedrooms, separated by a shower room. It sleeps four, with one king size bed per bedroom.
'KYOTO'
the last one is our Japanese room. Decorated in the Japanese style, all in natural wood and red/black laquered furniture, it has a very "zen" view of the peartree and the lake. You sleep on a king size futon.
Each room has its own showerroom and toilet and a private entrance, and a view of the lake and the forest. On the ground floor a fridge/freezer and a washing machine are available to our guests.
Our rooms are classified 3 'ears of corn' by Gites de France and their General Conditions apply.
On the ground floor (approx. 120 m2) you will find a living room which still has the original fireplace, a bar and a dining room to be used freely by our guests. In the living room you will also find our library of over one thousand books in English, French and Dutch. In the dining room, next to the bread oven, are a piano and a television and the kid's corner with books, games, colouring pencils, lego etc.
 Activities and attractions nearby:
The surroundings
'Le Moulin de Palbas' lies at 5 kms from the center of a village of 450 souls, Pruniers, in the heart of the Berry region, 250 kms South of Paris, in the Indre. The Berry region is rich in history ('les Ducs de Berry) and culture (Liszt, Chopin, George Sand, Alain Fournier, Balzac,...), but has not been discovered by tourists yet. The rivers Cher and Indre flow quietly, the landscape is hilly with meadows and forest.
Don't be surprised to meet deer, wild boar, rabbits and hare and a number of different birds.
Activities and relaxation
The nearby forest and the country roads invite you to long or short walks (several villages have set out walks going from 5 to 40 kms) and bike-tours, or trips on horseback. Do bring your pet, if it's a cat, dog or horse: they will love it here too! In the after-season the weather is usually still warm and nice in this region, and you won't be able to resist gathering mushrooms. Even in winter does nature spoil us...
If you come to stay here in summer, you will enjoy our pool (outdoor; 10m*15m), go fishing our watch birds. The kids will go feed the chicken, find the eggs, say hello to the sheep and the pony; they will be having fun in the playground, playing table football or table tennis while you enjoy your drink on the terrace. In the nearby village you can play tennis, there are several itineraries in the neighbourhood.
Golf
For golf-fans on every level this region is truly paradise: you will find three golf courses within 40 km from here and a fourth just a bit further away, south of Bourges - that should be enough to organise a friendly competition! Les Sarrays is at 15 km from here, Les Dryades at 35 km, the Golf du Val de l'Indre op 40 km. Each course has its own characteristics but but they have several advantages in common: they are created in the countryside, with lots of space, the prices are more than reasonable and they are never crowded - so nothing to stop you from spending some quality time there! For more information you can go to this site http://www.golfsducentre.com (in French).
Culture
If you prefer cultural activities, you won't be disappointed either: two of the most picturesque villages in France are to be found in the Indre region. Interesting daytrips - for all ages - can be made to the Loire chateaux and their famous vineyards, the Noirlac Abbey, the 'Vallée Noire' and the house of George Sand in Nohant, the 13th century watermill in Angibault, the gardens in Orsan, the romantic music weeks and the festival of traditional music, the Futuroscope, the Palace Jacques Coeur and the cathedral in Bourges, the Parc Naturel de la Brenne and the Parc Animalier de la Haute Touche, France's biggest outdoor zoological garden. In addition to all that a number of events are organised from spring through autumn: music festivals, village festivals, markets and flea markets... organised to enrich life in the countryside with interesting encounters. Check the various sites in the left column for more information (sorry, some of them are only available in French).
